“While it may seem to some that I failed, I consider this my greatest success in my challenge of living healthy.”

When people picture a successful wellness story, they often imagine a straight line: lose the weight, feel better, and never struggle again.

But real life rarely follows a straight line.

There are seasons of loss, caregiving, overwhelming responsibilities, and emotional exhaustion. Sometimes life becomes so heavy that caring for yourself slowly moves to the bottom of the list, not because you no longer care about your health, but because you are doing everything you can just to make it through the day.

That is why an email we recently received from a past client named Heidi meant so much to us.

It was not a polished testimonial written from the other side of a perfect journey. It was an honest letter from a woman who had been through an extraordinarily difficult time, watched some of her progress slip away, and finally decided she was ready to return to herself.

Heidi began with words that so many women can understand:

“I appreciate you reaching out to me, and I am ready to get back to myself again.”

When Life Keeps Life-ing

Over the course of several months, Heidi experienced significant loss, unexpected responsibilities, and overwhelming stress. One difficult situation seemed to follow another, demanding nearly all of her time and emotional energy.

She did not stop caring about her health. She simply had very little left to give herself.

She described what happened with complete honesty:

“So…for months I had not given myself much attention. I had not stepped on the scale. I sort of ate right but struggled with emotional eating—UGH!!”

When the Old Narrative Returned

Eventually, Heidi stepped on the scale and learned that she had regained 17 pounds of the 38 pounds she had previously lost.

The number was difficult, but the thoughts that followed were even harder:

“I had lost 38 pounds, so it wasn’t horrible, but I immediately went to the old thoughts of failure: ‘Another program that did not work. Guess I will just always be overweight and unhealthy,’ etc., etc.”

That old all-or-nothing story is painfully familiar to many women. Regaining weight can make it feel as though every healthier choice, every lesson learned, and all the progress you made have somehow been erased.

But Heidi challenged that story before it could convince her to give up:

“But then I thought, ‘Really?? I have the tools. (My Coach) Tieva taught me the skills to do this and to be successful.’”

That realization changed everything.

She Did Not Have to Start Over

Heidi returned to what she had learned and began caring for herself again.

She knew how to build her meals and which foods supported her body. She recognized the emotional eating for what it was. Most importantly, she understood that one painful period did not take away her ability to make a different choice today.

Two weeks later, she was down 8 pounds. Her inflammation was improving, and she was already noticing positive changes in her mobility, skin, and fatigue.

“So, here I am, two weeks later, down 8 pounds. Feeling much better—inflammation improving. Mobility, skin, fatigue, all better.”

Her progress is meaningful, but the number on the scale is not the most powerful part of this story.

The most powerful part is that she knew how to come back.

A Setback Does Not Erase What You Have Learned

Many women believe success means reaching a goal and maintaining it perfectly, regardless of what happens in their lives. When they struggle, regain weight, or fall out of their routines, they assume they have failed.

But lasting success is not perfection.

It is understanding how your body responds to food. It is recognizing the difference between physical hunger and emotional eating. It is noticing how stress, sleep, movement, and daily habits affect the way you feel.

Most importantly, it is knowing that when you are ready, you have the ability to begin caring for yourself again.

Heidi said it beautifully in her letter:

“While it may seem to some that I failed, I consider this my greatest success in my challenge of living healthy. Life just kept coming at me in very stressful, emotional ways, and I was able to get my nervous system regulated, get back on program, and start working toward better health again.”

This is what we work toward with every client, and what we want for every woman reading this.

The Real Goal Is to Become Your Own Best Resource

At Sanara Wellness, we want women to experience meaningful changes in their weight, inflammation, energy, mobility, and overall well-being. But we also want them to leave with something deeper than a short-term result.

We want them to understand their bodies, trust themselves around food, and feel confident using what they have learned through every season of life.

Near the end of her email, Heidi told Tieva what their coaching relationship continued to mean long after their meetings had ended:

“Honestly, Tieva, I owe this to you. My meetings with you have been life-changing, and I was able to hear your voice, envision your face and positive attitude, and know that I needed to get back at it again.”

That kind of transformation cannot be fully captured by a before-and-after photo.

Heidi’s greatest result was not a perfect maintenance record. It was knowing she was not starting from zero and believing she was capable of moving forward again.

She closed her letter with words we hope every woman will eventually be able to say:

“From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for what you gave me with this program and your support—and I am back!!”

Sometimes, coming back is the greatest success of all.
